In Central European folklore, Krampus represents the shadow side of the Yule Time celebrations. An anthropomorphic goat/demon, he goes about punishing naughty children with his switch, the worst of whom he binds in chains, sticks in his basket, and drags to Hell. He is celebrated December 5-6, and, in the Germanic countries, it has become customary to send Krampuskarten (Krampus Cards) depicting lurid scenes of Krampus either chastising children or frolicking with buxom Fräuleins. The common salutation on these cards is Gruß vom Krampus (Greetings from Krampus).

“Greetings from Krampus” is a poem by poet/author Manuel Arenas, recounting the legend of Saint Nicholas’ devilish companion. Lavishly illustrated by artist Dick Kelly, it is a great alternative to the saccharine gift books that proliferate during the holiday season and makes a great stocking stuffer.
